A screen presentation is constituted by continuously changing series
of images supported by sound for narrating a story or conveying a
message, in a coherent manner. The prime purpose of a screen
presentation is to capture and hold audience attention. The foundation
of the art of screen presentation is editing. Film or video editing is
much more than joining together of images and sound recorded on
photographic film or magnetic / optical medium. It is the job of the
editor to weave the recorded material which is jumble of odd shots,
bits of sound and computer generated graphics into a meaningful and
interesting screen presentation. A film or video editor has to strive
to impart a visual variety to the screen presentation by skilful shot
selection, arrangement and timing supported by appropriate sound. He
has to recreate rather than reproduce the recorded event to achieve a
cumulative effect often greater than all actions in the individual
scenes put together. Only a good editing can bring life to a screen
presentation.
Spoken words, music and effects sound support the visuals – both
recorded and computer generated - in a screen presentation. A wide
variety of sounds are therefore, required to be recorded for laying
the sound track of a movie or television programme. Creative use of
the microphone is a specialized work.
Television graphics may include anything from captions over pictures to the most elaborate art work. The graphics are in the form of graphs, charts, diagrams, maps and a variety of shapes and forms. Computer graphics systems are used to prepare logos, illustrate numerical concepts, financial trends, result of polls, weather reports, cartoon films, video games and so on. The computer hardware and software together make a magnificent tool for the graphic artists with a quick mind and good imagination. Computer Graphics equipment is also capable of producing three dimensional and virtually any desired animation effect. Graphic art systems are only means to the end in the hands of creative artists.
Graduates of a recognized Indian or foreign university willing to use
the personal computer and a wide variety of softwares to generate
graphics and animation products, edit recorded visuals and sound and
are interested in learning the creative use of the microphone with a
view to working as a graphics designer or an animator or a video
editor or a sound recordist in the film and television industries are
welcome to enroll in this one year course.
