'MR AND MISS FRESHER-2001’ COMPETTION

Asian Academy of Film & Television, publisher of the monthly magazine - Star Yatra and Admark Agencies had jointly organised an interesting event to make the young boys and girls aware of the importance of physical exercises, balanced diet and logical daily routine for a healthy body and sound mind. Students of the first year class of the colleges located in the national capital region were eligible to participate in this event which was held at the Pragati Maidan’s Hansdhwani Theatre. A team of social and media personalities headed by Prof. Sandeep Marwah adjudged about thirty out of over two thousand contestants under various categories as worthy of commendation. The winners of Mr. and Miss Fresher-2001 event were later handed over certificates in a glittering ceremony held at Marwah Studios. Hindustan Lever and Nestle groups also gifted some of their popular products to the award winners. Speaking on this occasion the senior journalist Aziz Burney described physical charm and healthy body as a gift from God. However, he added that their maintenance requires due attention and care. Concluding the function Prof. Sandeep Marwah congratulated the award winners and hoped that the next events in this series would be organised within the next one year.
AAFT PAST STUDENTS ASSIST FILM DIRECTOR - SATISH KAUSHIK

Few sequences of feature film Badhai Ho Badhai directed by Satish Kaushik are being shot at Noida and national capital region.Sets with rajasthani backdrop and some other facilities for shooting at the picturesque Surajkund have been provided by the,courtesy of Marwah Studios.Shilpa Shetty,currently rated as the best dancer by the film producers,is playing lead role in this film. Shilpa Shetty was in news for her dance number on the song ’ Main Ayi Hoon UP Bihar Lootne’ in feature film Shool.She lost her foothold on the acting career after ’ Baazigar’ and regained the same with her brilliant performance in Dhadkan.The tall and graceful Shilpa Shetty whose acting talent has been recognized by the film-makers is now all set to carve a niche for herself in the Indian cinema.In Badhai Ho Badhai she has been cast againest Anil Kapoor.Music for this film has been composed by Anu Malik.Beside Anil Kapoor,Shilpa Shetty is working with well known actors like Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty and Chandrachurd Singh in six different films.Sandeep Marwah was greeted by the cast and crew of the unit including Satish Kaushik and Shilpa Shetty when he visited the location to look at the arrangements made for the shooting.He said that some more sequences of Badhai Ho Badhai will be shot in the near future in and around Noida and it will be ready for release by the April next.Several past students of Asian Academy of Film & Television are working with Kapoor & Kaushik productions, which is making this feature film.
SRIDEVI RELEASE MUSIC CASSETTE OF ‘KOI MERE DIL SE POOCHHE’

After the memorable 48th National Films Awards function, the music cassette of this year’s best film producer Boney Kapoor’s latest megaventure ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe’ was formally released. Beside Boney Kapoor, Sandeep Marwah, cinestar Sridevi, film actor Sanjay Kapoor and film director Satish Kaushik were also present. Many Mumbai & Delhi film & television personalities congratulated Boney Kapoor and wished success of the film on this occasion. AAFT alumni are also associated with the production of this film. ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poonchhe’ has been scripted and director by Vinay Shukla. The lyrics for this film composed by Dev Kohli, Satyabhan Gupta and Ibrahim have been sung by Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam and Hema Sardesai. The music for this film has been provided by Rajesh Roshan. Film actor Sanjay Kapoor will be seen in a powerful and all together different kind of role in this film. Jaya Bachchan, Aftab Shivdasani, Anupam Kher & Esha Deol are also playing important roles in this film. Incidentally, this is Esha Deol’s first film. ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poonchhe’ is slated for countrywide release on the forthcoming 11th January.
CHANGE THE PORTRAYAL OF WOMEN IN FILMS & TELEVISION - SHABANA AZMI

Noted film star, social activist and currently member of parliament Shabana Azmi urged the film and television producers to create gender equality through their work with a view to granting the women a place of pride in the society. She was delivering the valedictory address to the students of Asian Academy of Film & Television. Shabana Azmi has acted in more than sixty film so far. Besides two international awards, five national awards have been bestowed upon her for brilliant performance in feature films ‘Ankur’, ‘Earth’, ‘Khandhar’, ‘Paar’ & ‘God Mother’. She advised the outgoing students to take interest in all art forms and to minutely observe the life around them for doing their work. Conceding that it is debatable whether film making & television presentation can be taught at all, she said that she for one, is all for systematic training. However she added that learning process is never-ending and a lifelong one. Speaking on this occasion, well known lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar too emphasised the importance of training for film making and television presentation. Son of Jaan Nisar Akhtar, Javed Saheb had written the script for blockbusters like ‘Sholay’, ‘Deewar’ and ‘Janzeer’ etc. The coveted film fare award had been bestowed upon him on ten occasions - seven for the best the script and three for best lyrics. Javed Akhtar concluded his address by advising the students to always strive for excellence and try to come upto the expectation of the millions of viewers. Welcoming the distinguished guests Director of AAFT Prof. Sandeep Marwah presented the ‘Academy Award’ to the celebrity couple. Tanvi Azmi the wife of cinematographer Baba Azmi, also accompanied the celebrity couple.
PROF SANDEEP MARWAH RELEASES CD ON SUPER SPECIALITY HOSPITAL

Director of Asian Academy of Film & Television formally released a compact disc containing useful information about the state of the art facilities available at Goyal Hospital and Urology Centre just established in the eastern part of the national capital.Present on this occasion were a galaxy of Union and Delhi state Ministers including Mr ID Swamy,Mr. Ashok Pradhan and Mr Ajay Makhan; member of the legislature Mr. Arvinder Singh Lovely; municipal councillors Mr. Tilak Raj Agrawal,Haveliram Khanna,Mrs. Varyam Kaur,Mrs Shalu Malik and the renowned astrologer Pandit Jay Prakash Lal Dhagewale.Speaking on this occasion Prof.Sandeep Marwah complimented the management of the hospital for their missionary Zeal and added that it is the sacred duty of the medical professionals not to turn away the poor and the needy sick people.
ACTOR SUDESH BERRY IN AAFT

Asian Academy of Film & Television played host to the well know film and television artiste Sudesh Berry who has so far acted in fifteen feature films including Border & Refugee.Welcoming the distinguished guest, Prof. Sandeep Marwah mentioned that Sudesh Berry’ s latest film ’ Maa Tujhe Salaam ’ is ready for release.Answering questions put to him by the students Sudesh Berry conceded that luck plays an important role in the work of an actor.He advised the students to be above all honest to themselves and to dedicate whole heartedly to their chosen field of creative work. Reacting to a remark that Hindi films are corrupting the young minds, he said that sex and violence on the screen have to be handed with sensitivity by the filmmaker and any attempt to exploit the baser instincts of the human beings for making the film saleable is indeed unethical.Mr. Rajoo Karia , the popular bollywood public relations officer who was also present on this occasion also deftly handled questions put to him by the students.
FILM ’ YEH DIL ASHIQANA’ TEAM AT AAFT

The students of Asian Academy of Film & Television gave standing ovation to the director Kuku Kohli, the hero Karan Nath and the heroine Jeevidha Sharma of the feature film ’ Yeh Dil Ashiqana’ , when they made a guest appearance at the invitation of Prof. Sandeep Marwah.Kuku Kohli who had learnt the grammar of filmmaking from Raj Kappor is remembered for his box office hit ’ Phool Aur Kante’ . Spotting the acting talent in Karan Nath and jeevidha Sharma Kuku Kohli has introduced them in his latest work of art which is ready for all India release.Interacting with the students Kuku Kohli asserted that more then the money ,film maker requires deep understanding of the creative use of the camera,the art of editing and making the actors perform their roles.he was of the view that the director of the film should better write the script himself or herself .Kuku Kohli also said that self-confidence is of utmost importance in any field of work including film making and advised the students to believe in themselves. The new comers Karan Nath and Jeevidha Sharma were of the view that actor needs both talent and techniques to do his or her work properly.Jeevidha Sharma a charming girl from Delhi,was pleased to be in her hometown and with the aspirants of a career in the film industry.
YET ANOTHER AWARD TO AAFT FOR EXCELLENCE IN FILM TRAINING

Pointing to the perils of taking security for granted,the hon’ ble union home minister Mr. L.K. Advani said that there is a need to educate people about the threats to and ways and means of protecting their lives and limbs as well as the national infrastructure,from the antisocial elements within and adversaries outside the country.Lamenting that ours is an information poor society, the hon’ ble home minister forcefully pleaded for the generation of suitable literature on various aspects of security.Mr. L.K. Advani was addressing a large gathering after bestowing the ’ Dynamic Achievement Awards 2002’ on media personalities,intellectuals and public figure at the 15th World Book Fair,New Delhi.The recipients of this prestigious award included renowned poetess Amrita Pritam,editor of India Today Prabha Chawla,Chairman of CSR group of publications S.K. Sachdeva,director of Asian Academy of Film & Television Prof. Sandeep Marwah,editor of Sahara Urdu daily Dr Aziz Burni,Veteran Journalist Kuldip Nayyar and Police officer Kiran Bedi.Chief minister of Delhi state Shiela Dixit,former governor of UP Dr. B. Satyanarayana Reddy and former member of Parliament Nirmala Deshpande were amongst the dignitaries who also addressed the gathering.
FILM MARKET HAS NOT SHRUNK - BONEY

The great showman of Contemporary Indian Cinema and the member of the governing council of Asian Academy of Film & TV Boney Kapoor accompanied by the super film star of yester years Sridevi,were recently at the academy .On this Occasion Boney Kapoor said that althought cinema is itself a product of technology,television has been catapulted into prominence due to extraordinary technological advances.Conceding that while technology has reduced the world into a global village it is also fuelling the menace of piracy which is a matter of great concern to the film producers.He also cautioned filmmakers against overuse of technological innovations for doing their work.Describing television as basically a journalistic medium and films as a means of entertaiment,Boney Kapoor said that both film and television productions will go on side by side.Boney Kapoor was happy to know that AAFT alumni are doing good work and that the academy is growing from strength to strength under the stewardship of Prof. Sandeep Marwah.Sridevi too was pleased to learn that the academy has designed and developed a module for the training in Acting & Presentation for the European students who may not be familiar with the Indian languages ,ethos and culture.
DO OR DIE FOR THE NATION - M S BITTA

M S Bitta made a forceful plea for making an all out effort to root out terrorism from the Indian soil.He was participating in a seminar on ’ the role of media in fighting terrorism’ organised by Asian Academy of Film & TV. Enraged after visiting Jalianwala Bagh M S Bitta joined the polities at the age of 14. However, disillusioned by the decline in the standards and the decay of Indian political apparatus , he decided to form ’ Anti - Terrorist Front’ of which he is currently the chairman. Talking about the misuse of the right to information and freedom for expression, he said that some satellite television news channels are indeed harming the security and safety of the nation. Blaming the politicians for the crisis in the country, M S Bitta urged the film & television producers to try and create awareness through their work, about the danger from the enemies within the nation.Addressing the students the well known legal luminary Wasi Ahmed Normani pointed out that the root cause of terrorism are injustice, exploitation of the poor and weak and denial of human rights.He expressed his deep concern about frivolous and flippant programmes being telecast under the garb of entertaiment which are adversely influencing the impressionable minds. Former police officers Puran Chand pointed out that militants often target the helpless poor people to instil fear in the minds of people at large. In his opinion literacy among people and economic development will go a long way in eliminating the menace of terrorism.Intervening in the deliberations ,Prof. Sandeep Marwah disagreed with the general impression that films too are responsible for the decline of moral standards in the Indian society.The director of Shiva Institute of Management is Dr. Shefali Gautam remarked in the lighter vein that good management is the key to success in all human endeavour including militancy.
