- RAJESH KHANNA ADDRESSES STUDENTS
The
Superstar of Indian films Rajesh Khanna said
that after acting in nearly 190 feature films,
he realized that performing arts is indeed
a fathomless ocean. Addressing the students,
he recalled his varied experience of 40 years
in the Indian cinema. The talented actor and
a heart throb of millions, Rajesh Khanna mentioned
that performing arts call for hard work sacrifices
and self discipline. Congratulating the Academy
for its notable contribution to the film and
television industries, Rajesh Khanna said
that systematic education and training will
be helpful to the aspirants of a career in
these industries. It would be prudent to learn
the entire gamut of the film art and craft
at the school irrespective of the chosen field
of specialization, he added.

TV professionals, the showman of Indian
film industry Boney Kapoor said that they

this premier film school. The veteran statesman
and a state minister of UP Dr. Mairaz Uddin
Ahmed said that the founder director of
Asian Academy of Film & TV Sandeep Marwah
has indeed done the country and his state
proud by attracting the nationals of over
50 countries of the world to this institute.
Acknowledging the role of Hindi films in
unifying the diverse Indian society, the
minister stated that satellite TV channels
too are playing a significant role in this
present era of globalization. The Dean of

UK the British partner of the academy
John Shaw, the well known film & TV
director A S Bedi and the former head of
Indian govts directorate of film festivals
Malti Sahai also shared their thoughts with
the students on this occasion.

MARWAH ADDRESSES DELEGATES FROM UNIVERSITY
VIRGINIA
A young bubbling batch
of students enrolled from countries like the
Japan, Canada, France and others at the Graduate
school of business administration of the University
of Virginia was in India recently for a project
study on the Indian film industry at Gurgaon.
The inquisitive students were lead by Mr.
Sherwood C Frey Jr, Ethyl Corporation Prof
of business administration.
President of Asian School of Media Studies
Prof. Sandeep Marwah was the obvious choice
to address the batch. Prof. Marwah briefed
the students about the growth of the Indian
cinema and apprised them of the immense potential
and growth prospects in the entertainment
sector both within India and abroad.

Croatian
culture and history expert, research scholar
of repute and currently director general of
Dubrovnik Summer Festival Dr. Ivica Prelender
was recently in India as a distinguished guest
of the govt. Beside interacting with several
academics and visiting cultural and educational
institutions during his short stay in India,
he met with the President of Asian School
of Media Studies Sandeep Marwah. Addressing
the students Dr. Ivica Prlender spoke at length
about the cultural scene in his counry and
the phenomenal growth of mass media worldwide
due to technological advances.
He offered to include well made short films
produced by the students of Asian School of
Media Studies in the forthcoming Dubrovnik
Summer Festival and invited them to actively
participate I this festival. Trained and talented
Indian film and television professionals are
indeed second to none Dr. Ivica Prlender asserted.

Taking
note of the worldwide reputation of Asian
Academy of Film & TV, the public relations
arm of the ministry international affairs
- The Indian Council For Cultural Relations
- has been sending their guests to Marwah
Films & Video Studio located in Noida
Film City. Gisela Bonn Awardees 2004 Dorothee
Werner. Council's distinguished guest - recently
visited Marwah Studios to discuss with its
President Sandeep Marwah, the possibility
of selecting short films made by this production
house for the film festivals held in Germany
from time to time. Dorothee Werner a prolific
writer is also dedicated to recording the
real life conditions of the Indian people
for the benefit of the European audience.
Her memorable short film. 'The Ladies Train
from Bombay' is indeed a masterpiece of documentation.

MALLIKA SHERAWAT IN NOIDA
FILM CITY
An
international film star in her own right,
Mallika Sherawat was recently invited by
the President of Marwah Films & Video
Studio cum chairperson of Asian School of
Media Studies and Asian Academy of Film
& TV, to the Noida Film City to meet
the press. She was visiting Delhi immediately
after making an appearance at Cannes, where
her film Myth in which she had co-starred
with Jackie Chann was screened at the international
festival. Mallika Sherawat was meeting the
print and television journalists on the
eve of the release of Boney Kapoor's blockbuster
Bachke Rehna Re Baba featuring the inimitable
actress Rekha, Paresh Rawal and herself.
This comedy film would provide the viewer
with whole some entertainment she declared.
Answering questions put to her she said
that audience satisfaction and not an award
is always upper most in her mind, while
performing in a film. Some of the memorable
films featuring Mallika Sherawat are Murder
and Khuahish. The talented director of Bach
Ke Rehna Re Baba Govind Menon was also present
at the press conference. Both Mallika Sherawat
and Govind Menon accepted the life membership
of the International Film & Television
Club on this occasion.

MEDIA HAS GREATLY INFLUENCED THE SOCIETY -
PARLIAMENTARIAN SHAHID SIDDIQUI
Speaking about the extraordinary
power of the mass media to influence the human
mind, the well known political figure, social
worker, journalist and a member of the Rajya
Sabha Shahid Siddiqui pointed out to the enormous
responsibility which a maker of the mass media
products must shoulder. The hon'ble member
of parliament was addressing the students
of Asian Academy of Film & TV. Commending
the contribution made by Prof. Sandeep Marwah
to the film and television industries worldwide
Shahid Siddiqui said that the journalists
must develop a capacity to perceive the truth
as what we happen to see is most often not
the truth. He was of the view that ethical
journalism demand sacrificing personal interests.
The renowned advertising guru Sam Mathews
said that a maker of mass media products should
have a vision. It is all important to create
an idea and the technology only has to follow
it, he added. Speaking on this occasion the
renowned educationist Dr. J.D. Singh mentioned
that a short cut to a goal is often a short
cut to disaster and it is only the hard work
which pays in life. Another well known Social
Worker Shaeen Parviz also expressed his views
on media education. Hon'ble Member of Rajya
Sabha Shahid Siddiqui presented the academy
award to AAFT alumnus Barkha Kaul in appreciation
of her notable success in the entertainment
industry.

KAPOOR IN NOIDA TO WISH GODSPEED TO FEATURETTE
ON DADASAHEB PHALKE
Commending
Sandeep Marwah for celebrating the birth anniversary
of the pioneer of India cinema Dhundiraj Govind
Phalke at Noida, the renowned cine star Anil
Kapoor said that he is hugely impressed by
the activities in the film city of north India.
He was the guest of honour at a function organized
on the 30th April at Marwah Films & Video
Studio. In a fitting tribute to the father
of Indian films, a biographical featurette
was also formally launched by him on this
occasion. The producer of this featurette
and a highly acclaimed documentary filmmaker
Dinkar Chowdhary said that he has spent three
long years to find out as much as possible
about Dadasaheb Phalke to script for this
movie. He mentioned that hailing from an orthodox
Brahmin family Dadasaheb Phalke studied art
and architecture and worked as a professional
photographer before taking to filmmaking.
Dadasaheb Phalke also strongly believed in
the nationalistic philosophy of Swadeshi,
he added. As is well known Dadasaheb Phalke
produced the first ever Indian feature film
- Raja Harishchandra - in 1913 made several
short films, documentaries as well as historical,
social and mythological feature films during
his working life. The govt. of India instituted
the coveted Dadasaheb National Film Award
to commemorate the memory of this legendary
filmmaker. Dinkar Chowdhary's featurette will
indeed inspire the gen next filmmakers. Addressing
the gathering the chairman of Noida Deo Datta
fondly recalled having shared the very same
dais with Anil Kapoor eleven years ago. He
said that the work being done at the Film
City in general and Marwah Films & Video
Studios in particular has played a significant
role in the development of Noida region.

MARWAH PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Director
of the Asian Academy of Film and Television,
Prof. Sandeep Marwah was a special guest of
honour at the mega musical evening organized
by the Special Olympics Delhi an organization
a headed by SIS of late President of USA John
F. Kennedy.
The event had been commissioned for raising
funds for the intellectually challenged children.
Celebrity artistes including Usha Uthup supported
by the silk route and parikarma bands performed
for the elite gathering. Noted Bollywood actress
Dipti Naval was the other special guest of
honour.
Actress Dipti Naval, Prof. Sandeep Marwah
and Usha Uthup also released a compilation
of he black and white photographs of special
Olympians captioned "I am proud"
jointly on the occasion (see inset). Speaking
on the occasion, Prof. Marwah announced that
his AAFT channel and Marwah Studios would
extend maximum help in shooting the events
organized by Special Olympics towards helping
spread greater awareness about the noble cause
initiated by Special Olympics for the mentally
challenged children of our society. |
