SAWHNEY VISITS MARWAH STUDIOS
 Renowned
Hollywood actor Parikshat Sawhney recently
launched a new tele serial in association
with the Marwah Film and Television studio.
Neraly twenty students from the Acting and
Presentation streams of the Asian Academy
of Film and Television participated in the
enw venture. Parikshat Sawhney was highly
impressed with the facilities and infrastructure
existing at the Marwah Studios as he was with
the overall performance of all the participating
students. Chairman of the IMT, Ghaziabad was
also present in the launch shoot ceremonies.

TROUPE AT AAFT
 In
keeping with its rich tradition of bringing
performing artistes from various walks of
life, the University of Media Arts recently
played host to renowned Bharat Natyam exponent
Smt Jyoti Shrivastava for demonstration workshop
for the benefit of its students. Besides performing
with her entire troupe, Jyoti spoke about
the various nuances of the different forms
of art and dance during her lecture cum demonstration
session.

producer of the internationally acclaimed
film, Gandhi and Shatarnj Ke Khilari; directed
by the immortal Satyajit Ray, Yati Jindal
visited the precincts of the University of
Media Arts recently. Currently associated
with a number of foreign film production projects,
Yati found time out of his busy schedule to
address the students of the University of
Media Arts on a Case Study straight out of
his personal life history besides offering
a one to one interaction with all the students
present. Responding to a question, Yati stressed
upon the need to have a strong determination
alongwith talent, hard work and sincerity
to be successful in the glamorous world of
media..

MUST HAVE COURAGE OF CONVICTION - MADHUR BHANDARKAR
 One
of the most successful contemporary film
director Madhur Bhandarkar whose latest
film Page Three has been adjudged
a masterpieces by the discerning viewers,
said that he believes in making films in
his own style and following the dictates
of his conscience. He was addressing the
students of Asian School of Media Studies
and Asian Academy of Film & TV, in the
national capital region. Complementing Sandeep
Marwah on establishing the first media university
of India, he invited the students of cinema
of this institution of higher learning to
work with him. Film producer Ashok Pandit
accompanying the talented film director,
said that everyone including a filmmakers
has to be honest and respectful towards
his fellow works. Pointing out to the importance
of a strong character, he advised the fresh
entrants to the film industry not to fall
a prey to frivolous and flippant activities
in the show world. The noted television
anchor Suhaib Illiyasi and the bollywood
actor Mukesh Tyagi also expressed their
views on the television presentation and
films on this occasion.

MARWAH TAKEN AS MEDIA ADVISOR BY LEADING
UAE MAGAZINE
 Vice
chancellor of the University of Media Arts
Sandeep Marwah was recently invited by the
UAE Government to the Dubai Media City for
an international cultural exchange program.
During the visit, Prof. Marwah was also
invited by the managing editor of Dubai's
hottest selling magazine titled Beauty &
Style and inducted as its Media Advisor
from India, which he gladly accepted. Seen

SHORT
FILMS ARE POWERFUL MEANS OF SELF EXPRESSION

of memorable feature film Umrao Jaan, Muzaffar
Ali said that he has great fascination for
the works of film - art. He was inaugurating
an international festival of short digital
films produced by University of Media Arts
in New Delhi. This event was the first public
function attended by the renowned and sensitive
artist after receiving the coveted Padma
Shree award of the year 2005. Stating that
the medium of film has a great potential
to explore and document human experience,
Muzaffar Ali hoped that the filmmakers of
next generation will make use of the existing
infrastructure at the Film City in the national
capital region, to do their work. Complementing
Sandeep Marwah for establishing the International
Film & Television Club the former director
of the Directorate of Film Festival Malti
Sahai said that film festivals do go a long
way to support production of good films.
The former director of Pune based National
Film Archive of India, P.K. Nair who was
also present on this occasion, said that
as a connoisseur of film art, he is ever
willing to lend all possible support and
help in film studies to the students of
Cinema.

TO LAUNCH PHD COURSES SOON
 In
keeping with its tradition of providing
pioneering initiatives in the field of education
in media arts, the University of Media Arts
has decided to launch PhD courses in various
specialized streams of media arts soon.Interested
candidates can write to the course director
with expressions of their interest and a
brief background of their academic, professional
qualifications, areas of expertise and future
interests for fixing personal meeting with
Prof. Sandeep Marwah, the Vice Chancellor
of the University. The courses are scheduled
to commence from July 2005.

REQUIRES SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF THE MEDIUM -
SATISH KAUSHIK
The well known film director
Satish Kaushik said that watching the works
of great filmmakers like Eisenstein, Fellini
and Satyajit Ray Goddard had been a valuable
hearing experience for him. He was addressing
the students of University of Media Arts'
study centre Asian Academy of Film & Television
and Asian School of Media Studies after formally
declaring open Sewaram Marwah Memorial Films
& Books Library of the University in the
national capital region. Stating that he although
he loves directing films, acting is his passion.
Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor starrer feature
film Milenge-Milenge currently being directed
by him is nearing completion, he disclosed.
Speaking on this occasion, the founder director
of Pune's National Film Archive of India P.K.
Nair said that setting up of the University
of Media Arts by Prof. Sandeep Marwah indeed
reflects the growing importance of creative
industries worldwide. It is important to understand
cinema prior to embarking upon making of a
film, he added. Documentary filmmaker of Kolkata
Subha Das Mollick also graced the occasion.
