Sound for motion pictures is an aural experience designed and produced to support the story of a narrative or documentary. Sound could tell a story directly, or it could be used to enhance a story. Although there are separate perceptual mechanism for sound and picture, the sound may be integrated by the audience along with the picture into a complete whole. In such a situation, the sound and the picture together could become greater than sum of these two components. In most cases, motion picture sound is constructed in post production utilizing many piece of sound mixed seamlessly together to create a complete whole. The sources for the sound include recording made during principal photography on the sets or location; song, background music, effects sound recorded specially for the motion picture.
