It is said that’ Old is Gold’. Delhi enjoyed the Old beauties on the road and the occasion was The 42nd Statesman Vintage Car Rally 2008. More than 100 classic & post-war cars took part in the startling event. Looking as good as new the cars traveled between Delhi and the picturesque Westin Sohna-Gurgaon Resort before returning to Modern School Barakhamba Road for prize distribution. Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor flagged off the rally from statesman house and Sandeep Marwah AAFT was the guest of honor. AAFT was co sponsors of the event with The Statesman.Taking the roads in their stride while passing the cheering crowd were Vintage cars such as The sturdy Fords, little Austins, the majestic 1913 Rolls Royce, stylish Chevrolets & Jaguars and a pleasing 1914 John Morris among others. The rally ended at the Modern School barakhamba road where the prizes were given off by Antara Kumar, wife of the Managing Director of The Statesman. Under the vintage section, The Statesman Challenge Trophy went to the 1913 Rolls Royce, which also won The Montagu Trophy for the most elegant British car participating. In the Classic section, MG 1949 won the Purolator India Ltd Trophy for the most elegant and best maintained classic car of the period 1940-1956. In the post-war section, Cheverlet 1961 won the Ansal Housing Trophy for the best performance in the road section. Sandeep Marwah, Director AAFT present at the event expressed his gladness on being associated with a Big National Event. Two vintage cars Austin princess 1956 British, Pontiac silver streak 1947 American were the entries from AAFT.
