Blog By Anil Kapoor – Film Actor For All Students in AAFT / ASMS and aspiring filmmakers and actors

anil-kapoor

I was born in a traditional Hindu family .I am lucky to be a son of the widely respected film producer Surinder Kapoor and pious and god fearing lady Nirmal. I decided to take up acting for films as a career. My film producer father with his contacts and reputation have helped and supported me in getting into the film world. Films are in my genes and they are a part and parcel of my life. Whatever, little I have achieved so far in close to thirty long year career in the film industry, is due to a curious mix of the blessings of God Almighty and my revered parents, appreciation of my work by the audiences, passion for film acting, hard work and above all the film acting training I had received.

I have no hesitation is stating that there is no business like show business and that the film industry is a great place to be in. Film making is an art form involving the work of a creative team and entailing huge expenditure. Therefore, the aspirants for a career in the film industry are well advised to acquire adequate knowledge and develop necessary skill in their chosen field of creative work, in the
first instance. Let me mention that the film industry welcomes passionate but trained people and that the modern day film professionals are invariably product of a film school.
February 22, 2009 was indeed a proud moment in my professional career, when Slumdog Millionaire was declared as the best film of 2008 and it bagged 8 Oscar awards. This is a small love story told brilliantly with focus on India. Slumdog Millionaire has indeed put India on the map of International Cinema like no other recent film has in recent time. This film is a good statement not about India alone;
it is about human spirit which triumphs in the face of hurdles, handicaps and hardships. The rags to riches element of the film mirrors my life. I started with a simple background and lived in a chawl- an improved and version of a slum – with small cubicles and community bathrooms. I am a small part of a large picture- Slumdog Millionaire.

I am proud to be on the Board of Directors of the world renowned Asian Academy of Film and Television and its sister institute Asian School of Media Studies as it is my earnest desire to provide all possible help and support to the young aspirants of a career in film making and television production. I would be pleased to answer questions on this AAFT blog relating to various aspects of film production work and
specially acting for film, from the students of film & television and or those who intend to take-up studies in these mediums of Mass Communication.

Best Wishes
Anil Kapoor
